Senior Software Engineer, New Product

The Team

Recurring Credit is building a mobile-first line of credit to replace payday loans and cash advance apps with something safer. Small, senior team operating like a startup inside Upstart—lean, fast, and AI-native.

How you'll make an impact

• Build core backend systems: instant disbursements, billing, and repayment schedules
• Develop distributed, event-driven services (Kafka, SQS) with reliability at scale
• Leverage AI-native workflows (Cursor, Copilot, LLM tooling) to accelerate delivery
• Collaborate with product and design to ship user-facing features fast

Requirements

• 4+ years building production backend systems, ideally consumer-facing
• Strong distributed systems experience (Kafka, event-driven, DLQs, idempotency)
• Proficiency in OO language (Java, Kotlin, Python, Ruby) + SQL
• Track record shipping 0→1 products in ambiguous environments
• Active AI tool usage beyond autocomplete

Nice to Have

• Fintech/payments experience (billing, ledgers, KYC)
• Schema evolution (Protobuf, Avro) and safe data migrations

Compensation & Location

$142k–$226k base + bonus & equity. Remote US (San Mateo, Columbus, Austin offices available). Quarterly onsites covered.
